Celebration of the Lord of Auspicious Beginning, Ganesha.

Hello friends, today we celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesha, the God of auspicious beginnings as ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’. Any Hindu festivity or ritual starts with the worshipping of Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles and patron of arts and, creativity. Lord Ganesha also is the scribe, who penned the epic poem ‘Mahabharata’ composed by the poet sage Ved Vyas. He is said to be so committed to his colossal task that he broke one of his own tusk and used it as a writing instrument. That’s how He came to be known as ‘ek danta’.

The Lord Ganesha is famous as a great foodie and said to be a fan of ‘laddoos’ and ‘modaks’, kind of sweets prepared by her mother Goddess Parvati. Therefore they comprise the chief sweets which are offered to him besides array of fruits and flowers.

In Maharashtra the occasion is celebrated as the legendary ‘Ganapati Utsav’ a festival started by renowned freedom fighter, Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak to unite and lift the spirit of Indians to fight against the colonial oppression. Specially the idol of him as The King of Lalbaug (Lalbaugcha Raja) in Mumbai is quite eponymous and grand.

Lord Ganesha is also worshipped in Hindu households with great enthusiasm. In prevailing atmosphere of despondency, the festivity brings a bouquet of hope and vigour. Let’s all celebrate the festival while adhering to pandemic safety protocol and seek Ganapati Bappa’ s blessings for success, health, happiness and world peace.

    1. It’s absolutely correct. We indeed literally have thirteen festivals in twelve monthes( a bangla proverb). All of them include delicious food, decoration of home and relatives visiting 😀 We enjoyed this festival having lots of laddoos as offering to Ganesha. Thanks Cheryl for your good wishes. Hope the surgery of life part
