Hello friends, when you travel long distance with festivities in the air, how do you feel? A deep sense of happiness and added interest towards the outside view will keep you hooked. The journey would feel like meandering through the gardens! The same thing happened to me, en route to Bhagalpur, Bihar from Kolkata. While passing through the locality, the scene was invariably of celebration albeit in different ways, customs and attire.
In Bihar the Durga Puja is mainly celebrated as Navaratris. Of course Durga idol pandals were there but their fervour is entirely different from what we have in Bengal. Once we visited Orissa during Pujas and the idol of the deity and the pandals also had a very strong local overtones. I felt very much drawn towards these variations and ardently observe them to understand the diversities in our respective customs. But one thing that binds all Indians together is our universal ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means all the living beings on this earth (Vasudha) are our very own relatives(kutumba)
We may have different styles of clothing, language and food habbits but in the core we all know how to give space and respect to others and happily coinhabit. We don’t have any issues in mingling with people of diverse culture. It’s indeed the surest way to share and enrich each other’s culture and customs.
The village folks, who came out on streets to enjoy the fair, wearing colorful new clothes were indeed a treat to the eye. The sweet shops decked with loads of sweets were the main source of attraction for the revelers. As the car was moving slowly through the crowd, I got ample time to capture some of the pictures. Though they are of not good quality, I decided to include them to give you a glimse of rural Bihar. I will tell you about their customs in some other post.
I’m enclosing some photos of Bhagalpur too, which is one of the prominent towns of Bihar and my in law’s place too, which is well on the way to become smart city very soon. Do have a look.
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous life.
Adieu for now
